Chassis Track provides real-time chassis information at the point of interchange when it’s needed most. Marine Terminals, Rail Terminals, Inland Depots, wherever chassis come and go, Chassis Track can help ensure only authorized motor carriers utilize the right chassis at the right time.
Chassis Track is powered by eModal, the leading Online logistics application. Chassis Track provides the integration layer between intermodal equipment providers (IEP) and the terminal operating system (TOS). Before a chassis exits the terminal, the system queries the IEP’s database to determine whether the motor carrier has a valid agreement with the IEP and is authorized to take the chassis under the given circumstances. If the motor carrier is not authorized to take the chassis, then Chassis track returns a “hard stop” to the TOS, thereby preventing the chassis gate out transaction from occurring. If the motor carrier is authorized to take the chassis, Chassis Track returns a green light response to the TOS.
As ocean carriers steadily move away from providing intermodal chassis in North America, IEPs are increasingly dependent on a business model where motor carriers pay a per diem for the use of chassis for intermodal freight carriage. A key operational necessity is for the IEP to control which motor carriers may or may not take chassis in a given commercial situation; currently there are little or no systematic checks at intermodal terminals to ensure that the motor carrier who is responsible for the per diem usage of the chassis is a customer in good standing with the IEP. Chassis Track provides this bridge and allows one point of integration between IEPs and terminal operators.
